Recent crash shows what happens drunk drivers strike pedestrians

On Behalf of | Aug 11, 2021 | Uncategorized

An out-of-control motor vehicle operated by a drunk driver is nothing less than an accident waiting to happen. Other motorists, children going to school, pedestrians and bicycle riders often suffer severe drunk-driving-related injuries.

Lawmakers do all they can to deter driving while intoxicated, but it remains one of the leading causes of catastrophic injuries and death. A recent motor vehicle accident in Jersey City reveals what can happen to pedestrians struck by an out-of-control vehicle.

Overview of the accident

Around 5:30 p.m. on a Friday, a pedestrian accident occurred on Ocean Avenue. The vehicle, operated by a 25-year-old woman, ran a traffic light, left the roadway and drove onto the sidewalk. Unfortunately, the car struck three pedestrians in the process, injuring them all.

Some of the images from the scene of the accident show victims lying on the blood-spattered sidewalk. The victims range from 26 to 51 years of age, and all were transported to the Jersey City Medical Center for treatment. The driver complained of suffering from pain and was transported for treatment as well.

Although the motor vehicle accident remains under investigation, police say that the driver was intoxicated at the time of the crash and driving with an open alcohol container. Reports also indicate that the motorist did not possess a valid driver’s license.

It appears that the victims of this crash will walk away with less than severe injuries — and they’re lucky. However, the accident is a good reminder that automobiles are dangerous when motorists are too incapacitated to drive safely. The crash also represents a typical injury case in which victims can seek financial compensation for their harm.
